We are days away from the biggest investors event this fall in Romania. The Foreign Investors Summit gathered together tens of speakers from six industries that will shed the light on the legal and fiscal intricacies of business in Romania.

Daniel Constantin – Minister of Agriculture

Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Daniel Constantin said in July this year that his interest is not only in increasing exports, but in integrating agricultural production. 

“My concern is not only to export the grain, the maize, they are the champions of exports, but to integrate production. That is why the next 9.3 billion euro coming from European and state budget funds on Rural Development will go towards integration of production”

Alexandru Nastase – Secretary of State of Infrastructure, Projects and Foreign Investments

Alexandru Nastase, state secretary at the Department for Infrastructure Projects, Foreign Investments, Public Private Partnership (PPP) and Export Promotion (DPIIS), says foreign direct investments (FDI) to Romania are expected to reach at least last year’s level of EUR 2.7 billion in 2014. Nastase says the department will act as a one-stop shop for investors looking to find out more about local business opportunities.

Razvan Cotovelea, minister for the Informational Society

“We are ready to support private enterprise here and in the country”, Cotovelea said last July, adding that the current EU budget estimates that the IT Romanian industry could attract EUR 1 billion through European Funds.

Bogdan Valcov – delegated Budget minister, Ministry of Finance

Bogdan Valcov manages the state’s aid scheme meant for investments that support regional development. The scheme has a budget of EUR 600 million that can be accessed via applications submitted by October 17, 2014.

Alexandru Tulai – President, Cluj IT Cluster

One of the biggest investments projects in the country, Cluj Innovation City, is worth almost EUR 300 million, at least on paper. Cluj City Hall has placed at the disposal of Cluj It Cluster a 202 hectare plot for the development of this project, and Tulai and his institution are currently in the process of obtaining EU Funds and private financing for their project.

Daniela Lulache – CEO Nuclearelectrica

The contract for the construction of nuclear reactors 3 and 4 at Cernavoda is one of the biggest investment projects in Romania’s energy sector at the moment, with China Nuclear Power Corporation is getting nearer and nearer to being selected. The project is valued at EUR 6.4 billion.

Narcis Neaga – General Director CNADNR

Romania will receive EUR 7.2 billion in funds from the European Union by 2020 to invest in is railway and road infrastructure. By 2015, work on highways to connect central and western Romania to Europe will be completed, while the situation in northern and eastern Transylvania remains unsolved.

Lucian Croitoriu – Counselor to the Governor, National Bank of Romania

Lucian Counselor recently said in an interview that the business community has no more patience for policies that weaken the economy’s financial discipline.

“For instance, not any any individual bankruptcy is acceptable, economically speaking. The scheme must not allow abuses from debtors, moral hazard or damages brought to creditors”, according to Mr. Croitoru.

Anca Harasim – Executive Director, AmCham

Business advocacy group AmCham Romania has unveiled this year’s Priorities for Romania recommendations, which outlines the main policy improvements that could support the country’s economic growth on the long term. The raft of recommendations have been launched less than one month before the start of the presidential race and propose a shift in the focus of the electoral debates on major themes for the economy.

Monica-Ene Pietrosanu – Country Manager, Intel Romania Software Development Center

Set up in November 2010 following a multi-million USD investment, the Intel Romania Software Design Center has reached a headcount of 400 people. Monica Ene-Pietrosanu, country manager, is the person in charge of Intel’s software agenda in Romania.

Dragos Titea – Secretary of State, Ministry of Transport

Dragos Titea was placed in charge of the aviation sector in March 2014. According to the Transport Master plan, aviation and airport infrastructure requires investments of EUR 599 million between 2014 and 2030.
